If You Are in Australia
- Aged Parent Visas (Application for this visa is currently closed)
These visas are designed for parents who have reached the age eligible for the Australian Age Pension. - Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 864):
This permanent visa is available to parents of children residing in Australia. It generally has a higher application fee but is processed more quickly compared to the Aged Parent Visa. - Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 884):
This temporary visa is valid for two years. Holders of this visa can apply for the permanent Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 864) during their stay. - Transition from Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa to Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa:
If you hold the Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 884), you are eligible to apply for the permanent Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 864).
If You Are Outside Australia
- Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 143):
This permanent visa is available to parents of children living in Australia. Although the application fee is higher than that for the Parent Visa, the processing time is generally faster. - Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173):
This temporary visa is valid for two years and is designed for parents with children living in Australia. Holders of this visa can subsequently apply for the permanent Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 143). - Transition from Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa to Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa:
If you hold the Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 173) and wish to apply for the permanent Contributory Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 143), you may do so while you are in Australia.
Note: The Australian Immigration Department is no longer accepting applications for the following visas:
- Aged Parent (Residence) Visa (Subclass 804)
- Parent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 103)
